In the latest HK Prize Draw, there was no winner for the 1st division and the prize money that would have been paid out will be added to a jackpot (Duo Bao Jiang) to be included in the next draw. If there is no winner again, this fund will keep building up, and it could reach about HK$100 million compared to the normal HK$8 million for the 1st division in the next draw, as it has done several times before.
Hong Kong has nine artists on the shortlist of this year’s Art Prize, making it the most represented city in the history of the award. It is also the first time that nearly two-thirds of the shortlist are women, marking a significant milestone in the award’s history.
The BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize aims to honour scientific researchers in Hong Kong for their pioneering exploration, application and transformation of research achievements for the benefit of society. It is a platform to promote Hong Kong’s mission of “Boosting Hong Kong and Serving the Country through science”, which seeks to attract global top scientists, nurture forward-looking researchers, and build Hong Kong into an international scientific and technology innovation hub under the “one country, two systems” principle.
It has become a tradition for the HKA to present awards to early career scholars in the humanities to recognise their excellent work and provide encouragement to them in their future research endeavours. This year, a total of 11 recipients were awarded prizes, including a grant of up to HK$100,000 for their postgraduate study.
Hongkongers Jimmy Lai, Chow Hang-tung, Lee Cheuk-yan, Gwyneth Ho and Joshua Wong have been nominated for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize for their fervent dedication to protecting freedoms in Hong Kong and campaigning for democracy. The nominations were made by a committee of global scholars led by Hong Kong University professors.
The HK Phil will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Beethoven & Wagner International Award with a special performance at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in December. The concert will include a live recording of the entire cycle of Wagner’s Ring Cycle, a unique project that took four years to complete. The HK Phil extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Hong Kong SAR Government, Principal Patron the Swire Group and music-lovers around the world who supported this project. In addition, it is especially grateful to the renowned German orchestra the Bayerischer Rundfunk for their cooperation and support. The HK Phil is proud to be the only organization in Asia that has been honored with this award.
