The sdy pools at the north end of Coogee Beach are some of the city’s most famous tidal pools. They were built by Henry Alexander Wylie in 1907 and are a stunning ring of rocks filled with fresh seawater that can be accessed when the tide is out. They’re known locally as bogey holes and are amongst the best examples of ocean pools in NSW.

This was especially important when men’s enlistments for war service depleted the pool memberships of Sydney’s surf lifesaving clubs, and women were permitted to compete at the beach.
