As the eSports industry continues to grow in popularity, more and more companies are setting up teams dedicated to building and managing their own eSports tournaments. These teams compete in online gaming competitions, often against other gaming companies and gamers from around the world. In the United States alone, eSports tournaments generated more than $2.4 billion in revenue last year, and the industry is expected to reach $3.8 trillion by 2025.
In a bid to support the growth of this sector, the Singapore government recently established a special fund that is designed to reward and encourage innovation in the field. The new Fund for Research and Development of eSports will offer grants of up to $500,000 to organisations that demonstrate excellence in the research and development of eSports technologies.
This is in line with the Singapore government’s objective to be one of the top five eSports markets worldwide by 2025, and to create a vibrant and dynamic gaming ecosystem. In addition, the government has a set of guidelines that all eSports operators must follow to ensure the industry remains healthy and sustainable.
